6 Tips to Change the Habit of Delaying When Working From Home

Working from home can bring you more comfort than being in the office. However, this form easily makes you feel bored, lazy and creates a habit of procrastinating. So how to remove this situation? Let’s find the answer through the following simple ways.

1. Arrange working space

You don’t need to have an entire home office, but a small workspace with full amenities is necessary to break the habit of procrastination. All you need is a desk, a computer with an Internet connection, and a few other essentials.

Plus, noise is always the first thing that distracts you when working from home. So, in order for your procrastination habit not to develop, the first thing to do is to choose for yourself a work environment with as little noise as possible.

A serious, neat working space will bring excitement to work. In addition, you can prepare there a bottle of water, fruit, snacks. That way, you won’t need to interrupt your work, spend time going out to get what you need, and then have a hard time finding your focus again.

2. Make a plan

Have you ever thought about just watching one more episode and then working, but ended up spending all afternoon plowing the movie? Or are you just going to surf Facebook 5-10 and then get stuck there for an hour? Look, procrastination and the habit of procrastinating have taken up a lot of your precious time.

Planning will help you create your schedule and know what’s important to prioritize. Make a to-do list for the day or week. You can also highlight some categories to distinguish between urgent and non-urgent tasks to process gradually by priority.

Then allocate time and create deadlines for each specific task. Setting deadlines for yourself is the best way to stay motivated and committed while working from home. Thus, all you need to do now is follow the tasks in it in order.

3. Break down the task

We often have a habit of procrastinating before difficult tasks, or tasks that are not due. The danger with this is that we still think we have a lot of time, until we actually get to work and are overwhelmed by the huge amount of work.

So, with the work that is too complicated, you can break it down and start from the simplest parts.

Do you have to submit a report until next month? Create an outline in advance that includes the main headings of the report. After that, you just need to continue to break down each item, do it little by little each day and still be able to ensure the quality of the final product.

4. Apply the Pomodoro method

The Pomodoro method is extremely useful both when working at the office or working from home. This method suggests that you should focus on the task only for 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute break. After 4 consecutive times of applying the above schedule, you will have a longer break of 15-30 minutes.

This method is most effective when applied to large and lengthy tasks. Making yourself work intensely for a long time will definitely take a lot of energy out of you.

So, combine breaking tasks and applying the Pomodoro method to create short breaks that help you “recharge” quickly. It also helps to create a regular rotation between work and rest, thereby making you forget your procrastination habit.

5. Communicate Regularly

It’s hard to stay inspired when you’re stuck at home and working alone. Working from home certainly cannot bring the same professional atmosphere as when there are colleagues around.

However, you can solve this problem easily. Social media, email, video calling software, tools to track and update work progress are ways you communicate with your associates.

Talking to people about work will give you a burst of energy. You will stop procrastinating and quickly start working like everyone else. You can also join a few of your close colleagues to regularly check each other’s work progress as a way to remind yourself.

6. Think about work results

To beat the habit of procrastination, you’ll need a great deal of motivation, and knowing what you’re doing it for. No effort is in vain. Think about the salary you will receive at the end of the month or when you complete a project; or learning an additional skill and knowledge will benefit your future promotion path.

Or more simply, you can treat yourself to a cup of milk tea, a relaxing dinner, watching a movie after finishing work. This way, you will feel more motivated, energetic and want to start working right away.

When working from home, the habit of procrastination will directly affect the quality of work. Hopefully with the tips just suggested, you will know how to get rid of this bad habit, become more assertive and improve your work productivity.
